Finding your ideal home

Sounds simple, and can be if you do your thinking and planning up front. This will certainly save you time, effort and money in the medium and long term.

How do I know what it is I am looking for?

Once you have established your price bracket you begin your hunt. But before you do, be sure to have answers to the following questions:

  • Where do you want to live - think about distances to your place of work, family and friends and local amenities and facilities? Do you want to live in the city, semi-rural or rural location?
  • What type of property do you want to live in - flat, semi-detached or detached house, bungalow or cottage? How much living space would you like, how many bedrooms, is car parking and/or a garden important?
  • What are the other essentials - is the property in a good catchment area, do you need  childcare facilities nearby or good, quick access to public transport links?

To help you to establish that you are getting everything that you want in a property prepare a list of questions to ask the present owners when you are viewing so that you don't forget .

You should ask the Seller or the Seller's agents for a copy of the Property Schedule. This will give you details of the items to be included in the price. If you wish other items to be included in the price you must let us know before we submit your offer.

If you want to buy a new home speak directly to the builders or their sales agent. If you want to but an older home then there are various sources of information.

Register with an estate agent like Hunters Residential and you can ask to go on to our Buyers Register. We will keep you advised on any new properties that we bring to the market that might fit your requirements. This information can come to you however you wish - by telephone, by automated e-mail or even by text message to your mobile phone. Also we recommend that you extend your search by registering on other appropriate sites.
